Colored Outside the Lines

About
This animated short film follows a young boy as he walks through a suburban neighborhood. Despite the beauty of his surroundings, he is overtly aware of the potentially life threatening danger he may face for simply being black in a white neighborhood. As he walks he narrates his mental state in the form of spoken word poetry in response to situations and encounters he experiences along his journey. His internal conflict is visualized through the surreal and mildly harsh imagery that illustrate his warped perspective. Each interaction and its visual depiction contrast the harsh reality and poignance of the black experience against the pristine facade of the mostly white suburban neighborhood.
